Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about lymphatic drainage
Is lymphatic drainage painful?
No, lymphatic drainage is a very gentle and pleasant technique. The movements are slow, light and rhythmic. The pressure applied is much lighter than that of a classic massage. Most people find the session very relaxing and even fall asleep during the treatment.
How many sessions are needed to see results?
The first effects are often felt from the very first session: lighter legs, a feeling of well-being, better sleep. For lasting results, I generally recommend:
1 occasional session for a boost or a moment of relaxation
3 to 5 close sessions (1 per week) to address a specific issue (water retention, postpartum, heavy legs)
1 maintenance session per month to extend the benefits over the long term
Since every body is unique, I adjust my recommendations based on your goals and how you feel.
What is the difference between manual drainage and the Madero method?
Both techniques aim to stimulate lymphatic circulation but use different approaches:
Manual drainage: gentle, rhythmic pressure applied exclusively with the hands. Ideal for gentle drainage, perfect for sensitive skin, pregnancy or postpartum.
The Madero method: uses wooden tools specifically designed to reach deeper layers. A more intense action, particularly effective against cellulite and for reshaping the body's contours.
Both techniques can be combined within a single session. I will recommend the most suitable technique based on your goals during our initial discussion.
Can I have a lymphatic drainage session during pregnancy?
Yes, lymphatic drainage is highly suitable during pregnancy, from the second trimester onwards. It is even one of the most appreciated treatments by expectant mothers: it relieves heavy legs and swelling, reduces the water retention so common during this period, and promotes better quality sleep.
The Madero method, however, is not recommended during pregnancy: only manual drainage is performed. Medical advice is always recommended before starting, especially in cases of high-risk pregnancy.
How long do the effects of drainage last?
The immediate effects (light legs, a feeling of relaxation and reduced swelling) are felt right after the session and generally last from a few days to two weeks, depending on your lifestyle.
To extend the benefits, I recommend staying well hydrated, practicing gentle and regular physical activity (walking, Pilates, stretching), limiting salt and processed foods and elevating your legs at the end of the day. Regular sessions help to make these effects last over time.
Should I drink a lot of water after a session?
Yes, it is essential! Lymphatic drainage stimulates the elimination of toxins and waste accumulated in the body. Drinking enough water in the hours and days that follow allows your body to naturally flush out this waste and maximize the benefits of the session.
Ideally, drink one to two large glasses of water right after the session, then aim for 1.5 to 2 litres per day for the following 48 hours. Prefer still water, draining herbal teas or infusions.
Does lymphatic drainage help with weight loss?
Lymphatic drainage is not a slimming technique as such but it can be a great ally for getting back in shape. It reduces the water retention responsible for a bloated appearance, refines the silhouette, stimulates the elimination of toxins and reduces the appearance of cellulite (especially with the Madero method).
For visible results on the silhouette, I recommend combining sessions with a balanced diet and regular physical activity. Pilates is an ideal complement.
What should I bring for my session?
Nothing in particular, everything is provided at the studio. I welcome you in a quiet and comfortable setting, with clean linen and suitable products. Simply plan for comfortable underwear (you will remain in underwear during the treatment), a bottle of water and loose clothing to leave feeling relaxed.
I also recommend avoiding a heavy meal just before the session and setting aside a quiet moment after the treatment to fully enjoy its benefits.
Can I combine lymphatic drainage and Pilates?
Absolutely, it's actually an ideal combination! The two practices complement each other perfectly:
Pilates strengthens the deep muscles, improves posture and naturally boosts circulation
Lymphatic drainage eliminates toxins, reduces swelling and promotes muscle recovery
I generally recommend scheduling drainage at the end of the week or after a cycle of Pilates classes to optimize recovery. Many of my students combine the two in their wellness routine.
How do I book a lymphatic drainage session?
It's very simple! After your request via the booking form, I will contact you by email or WhatsApp to:
Discuss your needs and any possible contraindications
Recommend the most suitable option (manual drainage, Madero method, targeted area or full body)
Offer you a time slot that suits you
