Lymphatic drainage
Lymphatic drainage and wood therapy against cellulite

We often hear about lymphatic drainage for general health or heavy legs, but did you know it is one of the most powerful tools to treat cellulite? To get real, lasting results on orange-peel skin, the secret lies in a twofold approach: the gentleness of manual lymphatic drainage combined with the power of my specialty, wood therapy (maderotherapy).
Here is how this unique protocol transforms the skin's texture and helps release stored fat.
Why is lymph essential in the fight against cellulite?
To understand what drainage brings, you first need to understand what cellulite is, particularly watery and fatty cellulite:
- Watery cellulite is directly linked to poor blood and lymphatic circulation. When lymph stagnates, water seeps into the tissues and makes the cells swell.
- Fatty cellulite corresponds to a build-up of fat cells (the adipocytes). As they swell, these cells compress the lymphatic vessels.
The result? Toxins are no longer flushed out, water is trapped, the tissue becomes inflamed and dimpled: this is the famous orange-peel skin. Without a free-flowing lymphatic system, it is impossible to de-puff and smooth the skin.
My specialty: combining manual drainage and wood therapy
To break this vicious circle, I combine two complementary techniques that act at different levels of the skin tissue:
1. Manual lymphatic drainage: releasing the fluids
This is the essential first step. With gentle, rhythmic movements and precise pressure, we open the lymph nodes and empty the excess water trapped in the tissues. This surface work de-congests the area, instantly reduces the "swollen" effect and prepares the ground by kick-starting the elimination of toxins. If you also suffer from heavy legs or water retention, it is this same lymphatic drainage that I practice at the studio.
2. Wood therapy: breaking up the dimpling deep down
This is where my specialty comes in to target embedded cellulite. Originating in Colombia, wood therapy uses wooden tools in varied anatomical shapes (ridged rollers, cubes, suction cups).
- Intense mechanical action: Unlike the hands, these tools apply deep, regular pressure that "breaks up" the fat cells and loosens the collagen fibres hardened by fibrous cellulite.
- Remodelling: The tools act like a sculptor on the body (buttocks, thighs, stomach), boosting the production of collagen and elastin to firm the skin deep down.
Once the fat and dimpling have been mechanically broken up by the wood, manual drainage takes over to guide this waste toward the body's natural exit routes.

The secret: consistency rather than an instant miracle
Let's be very clear: cellulite does not disappear in a single session. While manual drainage brings an immediate feeling of lightness within the first hour, releasing the stored fat and smoothing the deep dimpling with wood therapy takes time. The body needs repetition to retrain its circulatory system and rebuild its tissues. It is the diligence and regularity of the sessions (ideally as an intensive course of closely spaced appointments at first) that anchor the results and lastingly transform your silhouette.
The results to expect from this regular protocol
By combining drainage and wood therapy week after week, the effects on the silhouette are multiplied:
- Noticeably smoother skin: The dimpling visibly fades and orange-peel skin diminishes.
- Loss of centimetres: By eliminating stagnant water and emptying the fat cells session after session, the thighs and hips slim down.
- Firmer tissues: The skin regains its tone and elasticity thanks to the continuous stimulation from the wood.
- A lasting feeling of lightness: The pain sometimes associated with cellulite that is tender to the touch fades away completely.
Cellulite is not inevitable; it is tissue that needs to be reactivated, drained and remodelled with consistency. By combining the precision of manual drainage with the deep action of wood therapy at the Pilates Tamarin studio, we plan a regular protocol together to give the body back the means to cleanse and firm itself. It is the ideal treatment to regain smooth skin, healthy tissues and a sculpted silhouette over time!
